🔬 Geological & Historical Context
The name granite originates from the Latin word granum, meaning “grain,” referencing its coarse-grained texture. Granite is the second-hardest natural material after diamond and forms through the slow crystallization of magma deep beneath the Earth’s surface—making it a plutonic igneous rock.

Egyptian granite, including Verdi Ghazal, is composed primarily of:
  • Feldspar
  • Quartz
  • Mica (biotite and muscovite)
  • Amphibole (typically hornblende)

This mineral matrix creates a durable, interlocking structure with equigranular texture and color variations ranging from white and grey to pink and black.
Historical Significance:
Granite has been used in Egypt since the time of the pharaohs, prized for its hardness and aesthetic richness. Ancient artisans carved statues, obelisks, and architectural elements from Egyptian granite—many of which still stand today.
